godliness (god-lee-nis) noun religious, saintly, holy, righteous, good
God's character is something that we are consistently taught about: His love, care, protection, grace. These attributes make up the wonder that is God, but are also what we should all strive to emulate. This can be something I struggle with. The thought of being protective, graceful, loving, and caring seems wonderful, but it can be easier said than done. It's something that I'm constantly praying about. I want to be protective of those I love; loving to all people around me; caring in hard situations; and graceful even when it's easier to find fault. Godliness is a word that reminds me that we are created in God's image. Below are verses to inspire your own progress to becoming more like God.
1 Timothy 2:2 "Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity."
1 Timothy 3:16 "Beyond all question, the mystery from which true godliness springs is great: He appeared in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, was seen by angels, was preached among the nations, was believed on in the world, was taken up in glory."
1 Timothy 4:8 "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."
1 Timothy 6:6 "But godliness with contentment is great gain."
2 Peter 1:3 "His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness."
2 Peter 1:5-7 "Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love."
