101 List: Taking a Little - Revealing

Revealing is the final day of Spoils Week, the day where the Littles finally find out who has been spoiling them all week as their Big. On this night, we present our littles with a flower and a sweatshirt with our family pattern on it. All the littles are given their sweatshirt at the beginning, before seeing us, so they know who else is in their family, and if they've stalked enough, who their family is. The rest of the house waits in the other room with our sweatshirts on (rolled up so you can't see our pattern). Then all the littles stand in a circle with their eyes closed while we sing, and at the end of the song, they turn around and we reveal ourselves!

My sister, Jacqueline

Some of us Wild Things: top, Katie (my grand-big), Terri, Lauren (my semi-twin), Jacqueline, Tracy, Natalie (my semi-Big); bottom, me and Niki (my great-grand-big)

Revealing myself to my little, Michelle!

Yes, my little is definitely taller than me!

The Wild Things Family: Jacqueline, Seika (Jacqueline's little), Hayley (Jacqueline's big), Terri, Tracy (Hayley's big), Niki, Katie, Lauren, me, Natalie, Michelle, Jacqueline (Lauren's little)...we're missing Britney (Terri's little) and Megan (Britney's little)

Part of my lineage: little, me, big*, twin, her little
*My Big, Megan, is no longer in Chi Omega (sadness), so her twin in the house (Natalie) adopted me. So she is now my Big and I love her! She's incredible!!

After revealing, we all went to dinner at Crepeville in downtown Davis - it's our tradition! It was delicious! After we'd stuffed ourselves silly, I had a bunch of girls back to my house to watch Bridesmaids. Who came? Izzy (her little had to go home), Marie (her little also had to go home), me, Michelle, Natalie, Lauren, Jacqueline, Emma, Shannon (Marie and Emma's big), and our sisters Hemmi and Avery. Clara also joined in on the festivities (we keep waiting for her to join Chi O). Needless to say, we had packed house, and it was amazing!

All of us attempting to squeeze into one picture!

I made Big and Little sweats for Michelle and I...we're modeling them ;)

Izzy decided it would be fun to pick me up ;)

Spoils Week and revealing are two of the highlights of being in Chi Omega. Throughout the week, the new members (littles) receive gifts from their bigs (mentor/buddy in the house) anonymously. Then finally, on Friday, the bigs reveal themselves to their littles. Revealing is also where you learn your family's name and meet the lineage! My family is the Wild Things <3

My Revealing: It was a holiday party which is why Marie and I are wearing antlers ;)

My Big, Megan:

Spoils Week Day 1: Candy Poster

The first day, we had to make a poster using candy...a lot trickier than it sounds! Marie, Izzy, and I stayed up late making ours together. I loved being able to use glitter on my poster! I then left it at the house for my little to find at her meeting!

Spoils Week Day 2: Heritage

The second day, we're to give our little a basket full of heirlooms and anything to do with our heritage. Therefore we can give things in our colours, our family pattern, and anything else related to sisterhood. I actually delivered my little's basket that night to throw her off my scent ;) The new members get really into guessing who their bigs are, so we have fun with it.

Spoils Week Day 3: Insignia

The third day we give our littles a basket filled with Chi Omega's colours: cardinal and straw. This day was so much fun! I bought streamers and a poster, along with baking her some pumpkin cake (yum!), to surprise her. When I knew she had class, I went to her apartment and decorated the door to her bedroom with the poster and streamers! On our way out the door, Marie had a brilliant plan to decorate the staircase leading up to her apartment, and boy did it look fabulous!

Spoils Week Day 4: Owls!

This is probably the best day! Chi Omega's symbol is an owl, and boy do you accumulate a lot of owl things over the years of being a sister. The first step to owl-mania is this day! Now, for this amazing day, I had shirtless crew men deliver her basket! Unfortunately, she wasn't at home that night due to another club meeting, so I took photos of the men with her basket and left it with her roommate to give to her. These men were quite delicious! ;)

101 List: Donate to Locks of Love

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 29, 2012
Who: Me
What: Donating to Locks of Love
Where: Cielo Salon in Willow Glen
When: June 21, 2011
From: 101 List #1

Round One:

In January of 2010, I decided that I really wanted a change for my hair. It was insanely long and was starting to become a hassle. I had had long hair my whole life (with a period of a shorter length in grade 8), and decided that short hair was the way to go! So I made an appointment, along with my sister, and we cut off ponytails of our hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Bethany cut off 10 inches, and I cut off 12.5! Take a look...

Before: I'm on the right
During: so strange to be holding your won ponytail!

After: the final shot of Bethany's long hair and the first shot of my short hair!
I decided a couple months after that I wanted to keep donating my hair. It not only gave me a chance to help a cancer patient, but allowed me to have my hair at every length. I decided then that I would grow my hair out until I could cut 10 inches off, then I would donate it, and then start the process again.

Round 2:

My second change came in June 2011, only 14 months after the first time. I was so excited to get my hair cut and have a change again! So, in I went and cut off 10.5 inches!

I am now in the process of growing my hair out again! Here's a picture after 6 months:

101 List: Get a New Piercing

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 29, 2012

Who: Daphne and me
What: Piercing my Cartilage
Where: Pierced Out in San Jose
When: July 24, 2011
From: 101 List #1

For about two years I had been talking about wanting to pierce my cartilage. One day while my parents were out of town, I even called them to see if I could do it, and that night Bethany and I went to Claire's to do it. Unfortunately this didn't happen because I was unaware that you needed to go to a professional to have it done.

Finally last July, I did it! Daphne and I had made plans a couple weeks before to get our piercings together and I was psyched! My parents on the other hand weren't too thrilled. I definitely remember by parents asking me if I was sure over and over - my dad even said "bye pretty ear" before I left. But I was now 19 and ready to do something on my own, so off we went!

We both decided to get the same earring (which we both still have in) and it's so pretty. It's this opalescent white and matches with everything (which made me extremely happy). It killed for the next couple months if I laid on it in any way, and still randomly hurts (I had problems with my regular piercings for the first few years after), but I still love it. Whenever I look at it, I remember that that was one of my first decisions on my own! :D

101 List: Attend a Charity Event

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 27, 2012

Who: Chi Omega, Omicron Kappa
What: Chi O Casino
Where: Chi O House
When: October 12, 2011
From: 101 List #1

This was my first Chi-O Casino since joining the sorority, and it was a blast! Our national philanthropy is the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which is what this event was to raise money for. The year before I started with Davis, Chi-O had gotten rid of Chi-O Casino to explore other ways to raise money, but my second year at Davis, we brought it back! We had blackjack tables set up outside, a poker tournament inside, yummy food and drinks, and incredible prizes! It was a huge success, and I cannot wait for next year to do it again!

Izzy was a blackjack dealer!
My future little, Michelle and sister, Ciara
My sister, Kaitlyn
My Big, Megan
Marie and Katie
My fellow sister in the Wild Things Family & this shirt designer, Jacqueline

101 List: Buy a Lottery Ticket

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 27, 2012

Who: Marie and I
What: Buying our first lottery tickets
Where: AM PM Gas Station
When: February 25, 2012
From: 101 List #1

When you turn 18, there's a list of things that you're supposed to do, one of which is buy your first lottery ticket. Apparently, Marie and I aren't up on tradition. For my 18th, my friends decorated my locker with lottery tickets, but I had never actually bought one myself...until Saturday night. For some reason, we decided it would be a good idea to go out at 11:30pm to buy tickets...and dance in an elevator (#56). So we did!

My first and second ticket: won on one of them: I got another ticket
Marie: won her first one: she got $2, so bought another :)

101 List: Attend a Concert

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 27, 2012

Who: Clara, Emma, Marie, Izzy, and me
What: LMFAO and Ke$ha Concert
Where: UCD Arc Pavilion
When: September 13, 2011
From101 List #1

So, Davis is a small college town. Nothing too exciting ever really happens there. But then they announced that LMFAO and Ke$ha were coming - this was huge news! Of course, the five of us (Ella was being lame...) bought tickets immediately. The week before the concert, we all decided we needed proper attire to attend. So off we went to Forever 21 (which had just opened a few months ago in Davis and was really our only shopping place within a 20 mile radius). Our goal was to find things that were sequined, animal printed, and/or sparkly! We all managed to find something, and were getting increasingly excited for the 13th to roll around.

The concert was amazing! I mean, get two of the biggest partiers/artists in one place with a bunch of drunk college students, what do you think you'll get. Izzy and Marie went to the floor level for the first half (LMFAO) and ran into some of our Chi O sisters. Marie's favourite thing to do is dance, so she was bustin a move with Izzy the entire time!

They then came back to wear we were sitting, and danced with us the entire time Ke$ha was on stage. We had a blast! Our thighs were sore and our voices were pretty much gone after that night. When we got home, we crashed! Of course, Marie, Izzy, and I had pre-recruitment activities the next morning at 9am - bet you can guess how tired we were the next morning ;)

101 List: Attend a Music Festival

by Lavender Elizabeth, February 27, 2012
Kellen, me, Daphne, Bethany, & Kristina at Summerthing
Who: Kellen, Daphne, Bethany, Kristina, and I
What: 97.3 FM, Alice's Summerthing
Where: San Francisco's Golden Gate Park
When: June 26, 2011
From101 List #1

Every summer, 97.3 puts on a concert in the park with at least four artists performing. It was being advertised like crazy on the radio, so I was constantly hearing about it! Finally, I decided to see if my friends wanted to go, and so five of us ending up going.

Before the concert, we went to see Adrianna get baptized. I had never seen someone baptized before, and it was incredible. I was so proud of her! I love that my group of friends is so supportive to one another. And someone, it became a maxi dress day! Bethany, Daphne, and I all wore our new maxi dresses for the first time - it was actually nice enough in San Fran to be able to do that!

Once we were finished congratulating Adri, we drove to Golden Gate Park and attempted to find somewhere to sit. I've never seen so many people in one place! We walked around throughout Michelle Branch's entire set (love her songs, but not so great live). Finally we shoved ourselves in the middle of a  couple groups and enjoyed the show. One Republic was incredible! They closed out the show and I was insanely impressed!

The concert was great! It was so much fun (and so Californian of us) to be at a free, outdoor concert in San Francisco with the sun shining and great friends! Mind you, I did get the strangest sunburn - and when I say sunburn, I mean crazy blister gross sunburn in the shape of a racer-back tank.

Proudest moment of the day however, was squeezing my car out of this insane parking job:
