A Letter to my Dad

Titus 2:7 "And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good words of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching."

Dearest Dad,

I am so blessed to be able to call you "Dad."
You are also supportive, loving, and you take care of us so well. I'll always remember driving to your place in Napa after Brian and I broke up, and just crying. You stayed with me, talked it through with me, and just hugged me when I needed it. Not many daughters could go to their dad so heartbroken and have them sit and be strong for them, but you did. Throughout my schooling and moves, you've always been supportive, encoring me to follow my dreams and put my best foot forward.

Your work ethic is something I look up to immensely. You work so hard at your job, always striving to improve and come up with new ideas. You've taught me that dedication, innovation, and loyalty can get you everything you've ever wanted. For the past few years, I saw you travel to different states, live away from mom, and earn the job that you hoped to have when you started with the company thirteen years ago. You're always installing trust and smart thinking into those who work for you, and that's something that I hope to do as I progress in my own career.

I love that no matter what it is, you can fix it. From putting in my ceiling fan to retiling our kitchen, you've got it. I'll always remember Emma saying that you could fix anything - she's so right! Whenever something stops working or needs to be done in my house, I know to call you because you'll know exactly what to do.

While I've been sick, you've made sure to offer words of encouragement and commiserate with my thyroid struggles. I know that if I just need to lay down or complain about what my body's putting me through, you'll be there with a listening ear and sweet words.

I love that if I haven't talked to you in a couple of days, I need to call you. I'm so lucky to have such a close relationship with you. I'm not afraid to tell you anything because I know you sincerely want to know. From how my day went at work, to new friends, you want to know it all. Having you so involved in my life is something I don't ever want to take for granted.

Thank you for everything that you do as my dad. People always say to marry someone like your dad and I really hope I do. If I marry a man like you, I'll have a partner who is dedicated, looks after his family, continually laughs, can fix any problem, knows when to be caring and when to be frank, and someone I know my kids will have a wonderful relationship with. Every day I am so lucky to have the relationship I have with you. Thank you for always standing up for me, encouraging me, and shaping me into a strong, confident, woman.

I love you! Happy Father's Day!

Love, Ainsley
