When apple picking last weekend, we were on the hunt for tasty apples to make homemade applesauce. This week, I finally got around to making mine. To give it some added flavor, I decided to use brown sugar instead of regular white sugar - and it's delicious! To make your own, you only need five simple ingredients and a slow cooker.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
12 apples (I used Cortland apples)
½ cup water
½ cup light brown sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
1 lemon wedge
1 slow cooker
HOW TO MAKE IT:
1. Peel and core your apples.
2. Cut apples into wedges and add to slow cooker.
3. Pour in water.
4. Squeeze juice of lemon wedge (less lemon means sweeter applesauce, so add to taste).
5. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples.
6. Sprinkle brown sugar over apples.
7. Put slow cooker on high heat for four hours.
8. Mash apples once fully cooked.
I hope you enjoy this tasty fall treat!
