Part III: Year 4

Throughout spring quarter and the summertime, the four of us worked really hard to put our friendship with Marie back together. It took baby steps, but by the time fall quarter of our fourth year began, we were all the best of friends again. The time apart somehow strengthened our friendship and I am so thrilled by the bond we’ve created.

My Story: Part III - Year 2

Part III: Year 2


My second year of university started out with my first formal recruitment season for Chi Omega. We had an intense work week where we prepared for our four days of recruiting and then a week spent engaging with potential new sisters. It was a lot of fun, but also really hard. The days were really long on my body, and my stomach just couldn’t handle it. I was able to participate in the first day, but after that, had to stay home. I was incredibly bummed to be missing out on the opportunity to meet new women, as well as bond with my current sisters. Thankfully, I was able to attend our bid day celebration at the end of the week. What made that day even better was that my best friend, Emma, received a bid from Chi Omega. Now, out of the six of us, four were a part of the sorority (sadly Alaa had dropped during freshmen year). It was my first bid day experience and I had so much fun!

At the end of grade 10, it really hit me how much I was missing dance, so decided to try out for the cheerleading team. It would be a new group of friends, a different way to experience football games, and a chance to dance again. Cheering with my illness was a battle. I had to be perky and active, even when I was feeling sick. Being a cheerleader was an interesting experience. I never truly bonded with my team, which was hard, but it was an experience in high school that, overall, was so much fun! I just remember sitting in my AP United States History class in my cheerleading uniform, surrounded by football players in their jerseys and another cheerleader and feeling like I was having the most cliché, fun, high school moment.

My Story: Part II - Grade 10

Part II: Grade 10


Sophomore year of high school was lightyears better than my first year. The biggest reason was that I had friends to call my own. We were a group of ten girls that supported, loved, and cared for each other. I was still finding my place within their group, but knew that they were the friends I had been waiting for. My friend Kiley and I both had English together that year, and it was a time where we truly bonded. She was experiencing chronic headaches, while I was still dealing with my illness, so we bonded over doctors appointments, missing school, and how our bodies were betraying us. I also received a best friend in a girl named Kristina. I distinctly remember her writing me a birthday card and calling me her best friend for the first time and how excited I was. We’ve talked about it since and she was so nervous to tell me that. It was the first time that we both acknowledged how close we were and it only continued from there.
