overcome (oh-ver-kuhm) verb to gain the victory; to conquer
This may be my favorite letter throughout my entire alphabet word study. God so clearly tells us that He can overcome anything. John 16:33 is one of my favorite verses (I even have a print of it in my room), as it reminds us that He has overcome the world. For me, this is a huge comfort. It gives me strength to push through whatever I'm dealing with because I know He'll be with me the entire way. In short, He overcame so I can overcome.
Here are some verses to give you peace that Christ has overcome.
Jeremiah 1:19 "'They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you,' declares the Lord."
Luke 10:19 "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."
John 1:5 "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 16:33 "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world."
Romans 12:21 "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
1 John 2:13 "I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one."
1 John 4:4 "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
1 John 5:4 "For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith."
